Why we do it

Founded in 2012 in Portland, Oregon, The Manual has developed an excellent team of seasoned writers around the world who test all the gear, shake the cocktails, cook the food, interview the experts, and meet with the brands we cover.

Ian Bell

Publisher/CEO

Ian Bell is Publisher & Founder of Digital Trends Media Group, which includes sites such as The Manual, Digital Trends, Digital Trends en Español (DTES), 21Oak, NewFolks, PawTracks, and more.

Ian Bell founded The Manual more than a decade ago, and is an aficionado of hand-crafted cocktails, bourbon, Formula 1, and watches. He likes to spend his free time traveling with his family and discovering new brands.

Nicole Carlino

Editor

Nicole is editor of The Manual, PawTracks, 21Oak, NewFolks, and HappySprout. She previously held editorial positions at publications in the hospitality and soap opera industries — Hotel Business, InspireDesign, and Soaps In Depth. While she is an avid traveler, she has yet to meet her evil look-alike.

In her free time, Nicole loves planning road trips and trying to make tomato sauce as good as her grandmother’s.
